Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has said that Pakistan captain Babar Azam will continue as the captain of the national cricket team until he himself decides to relinquish the captaincy.
28-year-old Babar Azam was appointed as the captain of the Pakistan team in all three formats after Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked as the captain of the national team.
However, Babar will not play in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The series will begin on March 25 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Shadab Khan has been named as the stand-in captain in Babar’s absence.
Sethi said- “There is no danger. Babar, our established captain, will continue to be the captain of our national team till he himself decides whether he wants to give up the captaincy or he wants to continue as the captain. It is completely His call will be from”.
Pakistan selectors have named a number of youngsters including Ihsanullah, Zaman Khan and Sam Ayub for the upcoming T20I series. Most of these players have been selected on the basis of their strong performance in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.
“I respect Babar a lot. He is our top star. I am very happy that he supported our decision to try youngsters against Afghanistan,” Sethi said. Babar is also the captain of the PSL franchise led by Peshawar Zalmi.
