Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed displeasure over BCCI Secretary and Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah releasing the schedule of the upcoming Asia Cup ahead of the official ceremony in Lahore this week. The PCB on Wednesday organized a ceremony in Lahore to unveil the Asia Cup trophy and announce the schedule. It was to be attended by former Pakistan cricketers and members of the Cricket Management Committee headed by Zaka Ashraf.

Half an hour before the ceremony, Jai Shah announced the program on social media. “The PCB had told the ACC that it would announce the Asia Cup schedule within five minutes of the start of the ceremony in Lahore, but Jay Shah made the announcement on social media half an hour before the ceremony at 7.15 pm,” a source in the board said.

The source said that this destroyed the importance of the PCB’s function. He said that the PCB has expressed its displeasure to the ACC but was told that it was due to a misunderstanding. The source said, “The ACC said that there was a misunderstanding due to the time difference but since India’s time is half an hour ahead of Pakistan, Jay Shah’s announcement was surprising.” The Asia Cup will begin on August 30 with Pakistan playing Nepal in the first match in Multan. India and Pakistan will meet in Kandy on September 2.
