But the Panthers came back in the second half and won in the end. Deshwal, the season’s leading raider, was the star for the Panthers with 16 points on the night. Deshwal made a good start and the home team took a 3-2 lead in the third minute itself. But, Paltan leveled the score at 5-5.
Deshwal continued to score raid points and the Panthers took a three-point lead at 9-6 in the 9th minute. However, Paltan kept the team in the game at 8-10 in the 12th minute. Mohammadreza Shadloui Chianeh improved his game and Pune team once again leveled the score at 11-11 in the 16th minute.
Pankaj Mohite hit a brilliant double-point raid in the 18th minute to put Paltan ahead 14-11. After some time, Pune team made all-out and increased its lead to 20-11 at the end of the first half. The Panthers tackled Mohit Goyat in the opening minutes of the second half.
But Shadlaoui collected tackle points at the other end and put Pune ahead 21-13 in the 25th minute. However, Deshwal hit a super raid and the Panthers reduced the Pune team to just one player in the 29th minute. After a few moments the home team was all out. By that time the score became 22-23.
After this the Panthers gained momentum and soon took the lead 24-23. Bhavani Rajput hit a brilliant raid to dismiss Shadlui, giving the Panthers a comfortable 28-23 lead in the 34th minute. Moments later, Deshwal won a raid point and reduced the Pune team to just one man on the mat.
Soon after, the Panthers scored another all out and led comfortably 32–26. However, the platoon battled back and took the Panthers close to an all-out in the final moments of the game.
But Bhavani Rajput remained patient in the final raid and the Panthers pulled off a thrilling win. Jaipur Pink Panthers will next face U Mumba on Monday, while Puneri Paltan will face Gujarat Giants on January 21.
