Ahmedabad, 7 December (Hindustan Reporter). UP Yoddhas defeated Haryana Steelers by a huge margin of 57-27 on the basis of their all-round performance at the EKA Arena by TransStadia on Wednesday night. Apart from raider Surender Gill (13 points) and Pardeep Narwal (12 points), defender Sumit (8 points) gave match-winning performances for UP Yoddhas.
In the initial minutes of the match, both the teams scored points at regular intervals. UP Yoddhas increased the score through touch points while Haryana Steelers depended on bonus points. With the number of bonus points dwindling rapidly, Steelers’ Ashish made a super tackle on Pradeep Narwal to help his team stay in the contest.
Despite that resistance, UP Warriors were very good on the attack front, and within a few minutes the team took a strong 12-6 lead, giving the Steelers their first all out of the match.
The Steelers rallied themselves after this but despite this UP maintained its dominance. All their players were playing well but especially Surender Gill was completely dominant. Almost single-handedly, Gill struck out the Steelers for the second time just four minutes into the first half, giving the team a 29–14 lead at the break.
The third and fourth all outs occurred within the first 8 minutes of the second half. With a massive lead of 25 points, the Warriors looked headed for an easy win. Gill’s raiding genius was completely matched by the brilliant tackling of Sumit and Nitish Kumar and it seemed there was nothing the Steelers could do to stop the wave. The Warriors kept the pressure on their opponents and eventually secured a huge 30-point win to make a great start to their 10th season.
