Lucknow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the third season of Khelo India University Games on Thursday through video conference. This year Khelo India University Games will be held in Uttar Pradesh from May 25 to June 3. This information was given in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. In these games more than 4750 athletes will represent more than 200 universities in 21 sports. The games will be organized in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Prime Minister Modi will launch them through video conference on May 25 at 7 pm. The mascot of the Games is Jeetu the reindeer which is the state animal of Uttar Pradesh.

The Games will conclude on June 3 at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. On this occasion, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Sports Nisith Pramanik and all the ministers and officials of the state will be present. Famous singer Kailash Kher will also perform at the launch event. As per the schedule, Lucknow will host 12 sports (Archery, Judo, Mallakhamb, Volleyball, Fencing, Badminton, Table Tennis, Rugby, Athletics, Hockey, Football) at 8 venues. Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) will host five sports (Basketball, Kabaddi, Boxing, Swimming and Weightlifting).

IIT-BHU, Varanasi will host the dual events (wrestling and yoga), while, Gorakhpur and Delhi will host rowing and shooting respectively. Sailing has been included in these Games for the first time. The torch of the Games, which was sent from Lucknow on May 5, reached back to Lucknow on Wednesday after traveling a distance of 8,948 kms through 75 districts of the state. Four torches were flagged off from Lucknow, accompanied by Jeetu, the mascot of these Games. He said that the atmosphere of sports in the state has completely changed now. The government, which is always ahead for the promotion of sportspersons, is all set to leave its mark on the world sports arena with the help of Khelo India University Games. He said that the enthusiasm which was shown in the recent IPL matches held in Lucknow, the same enthusiasm would be seen in these games.
