Members of the Indian men’s chess team bound for the Asian Games, led by World Cup silver medalist Grand Master Rameshbabu Pragyanananda, will arrive here on August 30 for a four-day strategic camp.
World Cup quarter-finalists Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi and R Gukesh, besides veteran Pentala Harikrishna will be present in the camp along with Praggnananda. The team is led by head coach (former Grandmaster) Boris Gelfand and consists of coach Srinath Narayanan, assistant coaches Vaibhav Suri and Arjun Kalyan.
The women’s coaching camp, which will continue till Tuesday, has Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Vantika Agarwal and Savita Sree B as participants. All India Chess Federation (AICF) President Sanjay Kapoor said in a release here, “AICF is committed to provide unwavering support and state-of-the-art facilities to the players.”
“This coaching camp is a testimony to that commitment. This will give players an opportunity to strategize ahead of the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou.” The camp will be held on the sidelines of the fifth season of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid and Blitz tournament to be held here from August 31 to September 9. All members of the Indian team going to the Asian Games will compete in the tournament, which will also feature former world blitz champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and current world champion Wenjun Xu.
