Rajasthan Patriots will take on Maharashtra Ironmen in the first match of the first season of the Premier Handball League

The tournament will have consecutive matches from June 8 to 22, followed by the semi-finals and final on June 24 and 25.

Jaipur. BlueSports Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the organizer of the Premier Handball League (PHL), organized a special launch conference for the first season of the league in Jaipur on Wednesday. Apart from the captains of the six teams participating in the league, Dr. Ajay Data (Chairman, Premier Handball League), Abhinav Banthia (Chairman, Premier Handball League) and Vivek Lodha (Finance Director, Premier Handball League) also participated in the conference.

India has been identified as the next hot bed for handball and one of the main factors behind this has been the launch of the Premier Handball League. Federations have used their influence and reach to drive forward the future of the league and the game in India and make it a success.

The league’s organizing committee had kept the trophy a secret till now but it was unveiled at a press conference. Dr. Ajay Data, Chairman Premier Handball League along with Abhinav Banthia, President, Premier Handball League and Vivek Lodha, Finance Director of the league, unveiled the gleaming cup. The trophy has been designed and crafted by renowned architect Amit Pabuwal.

The unveiling was attended by members of the core team as well as Akash Narula (Vice President of League Operations), Karan Mehta (Vice President of Marketing Operations) and Karthik Yanamandra (Vice President of Marketing and Communications).

Dr. Ajay Data, Chairman, Premier Handball League spoke enthusiastically about the inaugural edition of the tournament. He said, “The Premier Handball League will change the landscape of the game in India. Handball is a highly dynamic sport, which will excite a lot of fans as the league will act as an ideal platform to increase interest in the sport and its popularity. We are sure that India will soon start producing elite handball players who will go on to win glory on the Asian Games stage after the Olympics.”

Expressing his excitement ahead of the first season of the Premier Handball League, Abhinav Banthia, President, Premier Handball League said, “We are eagerly looking forward to the launch of the Handball League in India. The fast paced action during its matches will enthrall fans This league will begin to establish our players as the superstars of tomorrow. The main focus of the league in the first season will be high quality competition and a great opportunity for fans to have an amazing live experience. Intends to expand the influence of the league by launching grassroots activation on a large scale to find talent.”

Expressing his sentiments, Mr. Vivek Lodha, Finance Director, PHL said, “India has always produced great players from various sporting disciplines and looking at our recent performance at the IHF Emerging Nations Cup, we look forward to helping Indian handball players grow. To do this, a professional league has been started. With the support of the Handball Association India and the South Asian Handball Federation, we have laid the foundation for a world class league that will grow year after year.”

Lodha further added, “The league will provide a golden opportunity to various private stakeholders in India to invest in the sport and help it reach new heights. I firmly believe that the inaugural season will certainly prove to be a watershed moment for handball in the country.”

The home team Rajasthan Patriots is all set to face Maharashtra Ironman on 8th June 2023 at Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium at 7:00 PM. The match will be telecast live on Sports 18-1 (HD & SD) and Sports 18 Sports as well as live streamed on JioCinema. The match between Patriots and Ironmen will be followed by Telugu Talons and Garvit Gujarat at 8:30 PM IST. The winning team of this league will be given an amount of Rs 11 lakh and the team coming second will be rewarded with an amount of Rs 5 lakh.

Sharing his happiness ahead of the first match of the league, Rajasthan Patriots team captain Atul Kumar said, “All the players in the team are happy that they are part of the first edition of the Premier Handball League. We have a squad full of quality players. So we are confident that we will do well this season. Now we are eagerly waiting for the first match against Maharashtra Ironmen which is going to be action packed. I believe a person becomes strong with responsibility So I will keep my responsibilities as captain in mind and try to lead my team by example this season.”

Echoing the same sentiment, Maharashtra Ironmen team captain Igor Chiseliov said, “We have been eagerly awaiting the emergence of a professional league for the sport to help elevate the stature of handball in India. Can’t wait to step on the court for the first match. This will be a momentous occasion for all of us and for handball in the country. I am looking forward to leading my team for the first match against Rajasthan Patriots. This is a It is going to be a highly competitive match that will engage fans across the country and showcase the potential of the league.”

The inaugural edition of the league will be held only in Jaipur. Fans will be warmly welcomed into the stadium to witness the dynamic action of its matches.

The Premier Handball League (PHL), is recognized by the South Asian Handball Federation and is affiliated to the Asian Handball Federation (AHF). The league which will have six teams – Delhi Panzers, Rajasthan Patriots, Proud Gujarat, Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra Ironmen and Telugu Talons. The league, which started on June 8, 2023, will run till June 25, 2023. The champions of the inaugural season of the league will be crowned at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur.

The matches of the league will be broadcast on Viacom18, which will provide multi-platform coverage through JioCinema, Sports 18-1 (HD & SD) and Sports 18 Khel. Spectators can enjoy live action from Sawai Mansingh Indoor during the tournament. Its matches will run from 7 pm to 10 pm.
