Prithvi Shaw confirmed to return to Northamptonshire for county season 2024

New Delhi: India’s right-handed batsman Prithvi Shaw has been confirmed to return to Northamptonshire for the second half of the county season-2024.

Prithvi Shaw made an immediate impact in his stint with the club this summer, including a record-breaking 244 off 153 balls against Somerset before his stint was cut short due to a knee injury.

In a statement released by the club, Shaw said: “I am very excited to be returning to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly, I really enjoyed my time there. It’s a great club to be a part of and I felt immediately welcomed by everyone.”

Despite strong interest from other county teams, Shaw stated that his priority had always been to return to Northamptonshire for another year. Where he is expected to be available for selection in both the County Championship and the One Day Cup. He is scheduled to join the club from June 2024 until the end of the season.

“My aim is always to help win games for the team and this time getting injured and leaving early was very disappointing. After the tournament a few teams were contacting me and wanted to talk about playing for them next year, but I think I still have a lot to achieve with Northamptonshire. They gave me a chance this year and I’m very happy to be back.”

The 23-year-old Shaw scored 429 runs in his four matches at an average of 143, before his stint was cut short due to a knee injury. During this he had a strike rate of 152 and his record-breaking 244 was the sixth highest individual score in List A history.

Head coach John Sadler is also keen to welcome Shaw back to the dressing room, whose last international appearance came in 2021.

“Prithvi is a fantastic batsman and what he did for us in such a short span of time was unbelievable,” he added.

“He was absolutely gutted at not being able to last longer because of his injury as he wanted to play some more red-ball cricket. So, the chance for him to do that next year is really exciting for all of us.” IANS)
