Proteas beat Windies by 87 runs

Centurion (Best Hindu News): Kagiso Rabada (50/6) struck a lethal second-innings spell as South Africa registered an impressive 87-run win over the West Indies in the first Test on Thursday. South Africa set a target of 247 runs in front of the West Indies, in response to which the Windies could score only 159 runs.

For the Caribbean team, Jermaine Blackwood scored 79 runs off 93 balls with 12 fours and a six, although no other batsman supported him.
Rabada took six wickets, including the wicket of Blackwood, in the second innings with his sharp bowling to destroy the West Indies.

West Indies started the third day strongly and bundled out South Africa for 116 runs in the second innings. The Proteas, however, had a first innings lead and were able to set West Indies a target of 247 runs. Rabada, along with Marco Jansen (33/2), reduced the visitors’ five wickets to just 33 runs. Blackwood, however, raised some hopes in the West Indies with his repatriation policy.
Blackwood shared a 58-run partnership with Joshua de Silva (17) for the sixth wicket. Rabada broke the partnership by dismissing de Silva and the wickets started again. Rabada dismissed Jason Holder (18), while Anrich Norkhia (48/1), who took five wickets in the first innings, took the wicket of Alzarri Joseph.
90 runs away from the target, Blackwood also fell victim to Rabada and finally the last hope of the West Indies ended.
With this win, South Africa have taken an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second and final match of the series will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from March 8.
