New Delhi: Yonex, one of the world’s top sports brands, has announced that it will now manufacture high-quality graphite rackets in the country. With this, Yonex said that it will expand its existing production plan and base in India, thereby significantly reducing the prices of high quality full body rackets. Indian badminton players have been excelling on the global stage and winning several major titles for the country, including a historic Thomas Cup win as well as medals at the World Championships and other international events such as the Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games.

Such consistent performance has brought badminton into the limelight in India and the participation of both men and women has increased to a great extent and has made badminton the second most popular sport in India. The new racket was unveiled by Ben Yoneyama, President, Yonex Japan, R.K. Hanawa, in the presence of Vikramaditya Dhar, Managing Director, Sunrise Sports India Pvt Ltd and Pullela Gopichand, Chief National Coach of India.

The increasing popularity of badminton has resulted in skyrocketing demand for high quality rackets and the market share for badminton is witnessing an increase of 10-15%. Producing the racket in India will also ensure that the cost of the product is reduced by 20-30% compared to the prevailing market rates and will be a direct benefit.

National coach Pullela Gopichand also highlighted the role played by Yonex in the development of Indian badminton on the global stage. Gopichand said that the new initiative to manufacture graphite rackets in India is another strong step towards empowering Indian badminton.

Gopichand said, ‘Yonex Sunrise has made a huge difference in Indian badminton. Be it 2008 – when India reached the quarterfinals in the Olympics in this game or the 2010 Commonwealth Games – where we performed brilliantly. In 2012, Yonex Sunrise was instrumental in India winning its first Olympic medal. Yonex has been an integral part of India’s success story in world badminton for the past two decades.

Yonex set up a factory in Bengaluru in 2016 as part of its ‘Make in India’ initiative, but till now it was producing only aluminum T-joint rackets, used by people playing for fitness or recreational purposes. goes. The company aims to increase the production of T-Joint Rackets from the existing 10 lakhs to 25 to 30 lakhs per annum.
