R. Ashwin said in an interview given to an English daily, ‘Mala would have played the final of the WTC. Because, it would have been my responsibility to bring Sanghala till here. I had taken four wickets in the last final itself. Since 2018-19, my performance abroad has been good. Me khelu shaklo nahi and aapne vijetepadhi patkavu shaklo nahi. Had I known before 48 years ago that I would not get a place in the playing XI, but my aim was the same, I would have contributed to the victory of the Sangh if possible.’ (R. Ashwin)

Due to the playing field, Ashwinla was ruled out of the finals of the WT, but India’s batting order did not take a big decision. In the background of this, Ashwin expressed displeasure. At the beginning of his career, Ashwin would have been a batsman, but knowing the future, he decided to become a bowler. Ashwin’s same decision comes to him, he seems to have already done it. Expressing this, Khant said, ‘When I retired, I would repent that even though I was a good batsman, I would not have made him a bowler.
