Rachin Ravindra became Emerging Player of the Year

New Delhi. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra and Australian opening batsman Phoebe Litchfield have been named the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year winners in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Netherlands’ all-rounder Bas de Leede and Kenya’s captain Quintor Able were chosen Associate Cricketer of the Year in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Rachin Ravindra faced competition from India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan and South African fast bowlers Dilshan Madushanka and Gerald Coetzee respectively.

New Zealand’s left-handed batting all-rounder Ravindra made headlines for his ODI exploits in 2023, in the format in which he made his debut in March.

He showed a glimpse of this in the beginning itself by playing an inning of 49 runs against Sri Lanka. He also did wonders with the ball. At the same time, he took three wickets each away from home against Pakistan and England.

He scored a half-century against England at Lord’s, before showing maturity with an unbeaten 123 off 96 balls in New Zealand’s opening match of the Men’s ODI World Cup against England.

An innings of 51 against Netherlands followed before another half-century against India in a thrilling match in Dharamshala.

Ravindra scored 116 in a spirited target chase against Australia at the same venue before scoring another century against Pakistan in his parents’ hometown Bengaluru.

Ravindra’s 578 runs were the most runs by a New Zealand player in a single edition of the Men’s ODI World Cup.

“It is obviously a very special feeling,” Ravindra said in an ICC statement. Whenever you are recognized by the ICC for something, it is always special. Having the opportunity to play so much cricket in so many different environments has been really special. Congratulations to all the friends who had a great year last year.
