Hyderabad (Uttam Hindu News): The stormy half-centuries of its top-order batsmen Jos Buttler (54), Yashasvi Jaiswal (54) and captain Sanju Samson (55) and the deadly bowling of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (four wickets for 17 runs) Rajasthan Royals thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in an IPL match on Sunday.
Rajasthan scored a mammoth 203 for five in 20 overs and then restricted Hyderabad to 131 for eight in 20 overs. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets for 17 runs and destroyed the Hyderabad batting.
After a strong performance with the bat, Rajasthan performed brilliantly in bowling. Bolt pushed the Hyderabad team on the backfoot by taking two wickets in the very first over. The rest of the bowlers also did not give any chance to the opposition team to return while being restrained and bowling at the right length. Later, when Chahal and Ashwin came, they brought Rajasthan to the threshold of victory with their spin.
The Hyderabad team could not return to the match after losing their two wickets for zero. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi were dismissed without opening the account. For Hyderabad, Mayank Agarwal scored 27, Adil Rashid 18, Harry Brook scored 13 while Abdul Samad scored 32 not out and Umran Malik scored 19 not out to take Hyderabad past the hundred.
For Hyderabad, Trent Boult took two wickets for 21 runs while Ravichandran Ashwin and Jason Holder got one wicket each.
Earlier, taking full advantage of Hyderabad’s decision to field first after winning the toss, Rajasthan presented a tremendous example of aggressive batting. Shimron Hetmyer scored 22 not out.
Butler hit 54 runs in just 22 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes while Jaiswal hit nine fours in his 54 off 37 balls. Captain Samson hit three fours and four sixes in 55 runs off 32 balls. Hetmyer hit a four and a six in his unbeaten 22 off 16 balls.
Rajasthan batsmen had scored 100 runs in 7.4 overs but after that Hyderabad bowlers came back and only 103 runs were scored in the last 13.2 overs. The fast batting of Jaiswal and Yashasvi had laid the foundation for 230-240 runs but Farooqui and Natarajan did not let this happen. Farooqi and Natarajan took two wickets each while Umran Malik got one wicket.
Butler and Jaiswal got Rajasthan off to a flying start as they put on 85 runs in 5.5 overs in the opening partnership. After Buttler’s dismissal, Jaiswal and Samson kept the momentum going though Hyderabad made some comebacks in the final overs to prevent Rajasthan from scoring big. But a score above 200 proved too big for Hyderabad.
