Jaipur. Rajasthan Patriots registered a surprise win against Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The match ended in the Patriots’ favor, 36–27. Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh took on Rajasthan Patriots in the 17th match of the inaugural season of the Premier Handball League. Both the teams looked for a quick start and dominated each other in the opening minutes of the game. Golden Eagles’ Sukhvir Singh Brar started the game brilliantly. He was leading the attack for his team. He also became the first player to score 50 goals in the PHL. Robin Singh and Mohit Ghanghas performed well for the Patriots. He looked impressive in the beginning.
By the 15th minute, Rajasthan had established a slight lead. The score was 7–5 in their favor. Arjun Lakra walks into the fray for the Patriots and is an instant hit. At that point the Golden Eagles were struggling to contain him. Lakra helped his team establish a decent lead over Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan Patriots captain and goalkeeper Atul Kumar also made some brilliant saves in the first half. Due to this his team further strengthened its lead. At the end of the first half, the score was 16–8 in favor of the Patriots.
Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh would be looking to turn their fortunes around in the second half while Patriots would be hoping to take the match in their favor in the second half. The early moments of the second half did not turn out well for Uttar Pradesh. This team hit the frame of the gopost several times and missed the goal. Omid Reza continued his fine form in the goalpost for the Golden Eagles. He pulled off some incredible saves to give his team a foothold in the game. From there, there were very good signs of a comeback for the Uttar Pradesh side as Harjinder Singh found his finishing touch to pull his team back into the match. The Golden Eagles were certainly on their way back, but midway through the second half, the score was 25–18 in favor of the Patriots.
Dmitri Kireev came on for the Rajasthan team in the last 10 minutes of the match and looked to be impressive in attack. Harjinder Singh and skipper Vikas wanted to inspire their team to make a comeback, but were unable to reduce the goal difference due to lackluster performances from their teammates. At the end of the game, the score was 36–27 in favor of the Patriots.
Mohit Ghanghas emerged as the top scorer for the Patriots with 9 goals, while Jyotiram Bhushan Shinde was the top scorer for the Golden Eagles with 6 goals. Patriots goalkeeper and captain Atul Kumar was adjudged player of the match.
