Rani Rampal organizes special camp for women strikers in Odisha

Bhubaneswar. In a bid to nurture Odisha’s wide array of hockey talent, former Indian women’s team captain Rani Rampal is organizing a special training camp for women strikers at the iconic Kalinga Stadium.

The camp has been organized by the Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha in collaboration with Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Center and Hockey Association of Odisha.

Held from August 14 to 19, the camp will be an opportunity for young players from across the state to learn from one of the finest strikers the Indian women’s hockey team has ever produced.

A total of 25 players are part of this Striker Camp and it will benefit players from Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre, Sports Hostel, Panposh, SAI STC Sundergarh and SAI NCOE Bhopal.

Talking about the camp, Rani Rampal said, “This camp is a great initiative. This is an opportunity for me to share my knowledge, skills and experience with these players in Odisha. My main focus during the camp will be on technical, physical and mental aspects of the game and intensive training sessions.

Rani also shared her views on the mindset and system towards sports in Odisha. He said, “With several initiatives and developments over the years, Odisha is on the sports map of the world. The facilities here are very modern and of world class standard. The hockey program in Odisha is very comprehensive with a special focus on sports science, nutrition and psychology.

Rani led a youth team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which finished fourth. This was the highest position for the Indian women’s team in its third appearance at the Olympics. She made her debut in 2008 and at the age of 14, Rani became India’s youngest hockey player.
