Adelaide. Adelaide Strikers have been dealt a blow with the news that Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan has pulled out of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) Season 13 due to a back injury that required minor surgery.
The Strikers announced on Thursday that Rashid required a “minor operation” and was ruled out of the season.
Adelaide Strikers General Manager (Cricket) Tim Neilson said that this is a big loss for the Adelaide Strikers team.
“Rashid is a beloved member of the Strikers and a fan favorite who has been with us for seven years, so he will be greatly missed this summer,” Neilson said.
“Rashid loves Adelaide and the Strikers, and we know how much he loves playing in the BBL, and we support him as he has treatment for this injury to ensure his long-term participation in the game.”
Nielsen further stated that “The management and coaching staff will now consider our options to replace Rashid for the upcoming season and a replacement player will be announced in due course.”
The Strikers will retain Rashid’s retention rights for the upcoming BBL season. The Afghan spin specialist has played every season with the Adelaide Strikers since becoming the leading wicket-taker in BBL 7 at the age of 19.
This is the second major blow to the BBL after the Melbourne Stars announced Harry Brook’s withdrawal from the competition last week.
