Chennai (Best Hindu News): Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag believes that Rashid Khan will prove to be Gujarat Titans’ trump card in the first Qualifier against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.
Rashid is second in the list of best bowlers of IPL 2023 with 24 wickets this season and his spin could prove useful on a slow Chepauk pitch.
Sehwag said on Star Sports program Cricket Live, “Rashid Khan is the trump card for Gujarat. If he needs wickets, he gets them to bowl. The way Hardik has used Rashid, it is commendable. Rashid likes to break partnerships and now he has become the most successful bowler of this season on the basis of his brilliant performance.
Chennai and Gujarat will lock horns at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here at 7:30 pm on Tuesday in the race to reach the finals. While Sehwag has banked on Rashid’s spin in this crucial match, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed confidence in the Chennai duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway.
On the role of Ruturaj-Conway in the qualifiers, Harbhajan said, “Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway come to the ground with full preparation. They have complemented each other this season. He has given good starts to Chennai and scored runs in abundance. The team whose openers play well, they score well and that is the reason why Chennai is in a good position today.
Harbhajan believes that the home conditions will give Chennai a slight advantage. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men may not have been able to make Chepauk an impregnable fortress this year, but the playoff experience will stand them in good stead.
Harbhajan said, “The contest between Chennai and Gujarat will be close as both the teams know how to win big matches. Playing at home is a big advantage for Chennai, they know the conditions very well but somewhere their performance could have been better. They could not win all the matches at home. It makes things interesting but Chennai look a completely different team when they play in the playoffs. I am really looking forward to this match.”
