Centurion. India’s batting faltered on the first day of the first Test against South Africa, but thanks to KL Rahul’s unbeaten half-century, Team India’s score crossed 200 by the end of the day’s play. After the match, Indian batting coach Vikram Rathore praised KL Rahul’s brilliant innings.

Indian batsmen had to struggle a lot on the first day to deal with the African pace attack. Team India was on the backfoot after the top order returned to the pavilion early.

Four wickets had fallen within 100 runs. Then, KL Rahul came to the crease. He held one end.

By the end of the first day’s play, Rahul had scored 70 not out. He hit 10 fours and two sixes in his innings of 105 balls. In such a situation, Vikram Rathore has described KL Rahul as the ‘troubleshooter’ of Team India.

Rathore said, “I think he is definitely the ‘man of crisis’ for us. Most of the time he stands up for the team in difficult situations. Rahul is a player who handles those situations really well. He handles the ball well. He knows how to defend the good balls and score runs on the bad balls.”

Considering the conditions, South Africa decided to bowl first to give a tough challenge to India.

Although Virat Kohli formed a good partnership with Shreyas Iyer but once the Proteas managed to break this partnership, the responsibility of batting completely fell on the shoulders of Rahul.

Coach Rathore said, “The conditions for batting were difficult. By lunch we had lost three wickets and the score was only 91 runs. There was a good partnership between Kohli and Iyer.

The coach believes that despite the early collapse, India made a brilliant comeback by the end of the day’s play.

India scored 208 runs for 8 wickets on the first day of the rain-interrupted first Test. KL Rahul is unbeaten on 70 runs. Siraj is at the crease with him. Whereas Rabada took five wickets.
