New Delhi Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was ruled out of the second Test against England due to a hamstring injury, will not be able to play in the third Test to be played in Rajkot from February 15.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Jadeja’s hamstring injury appears to be more serious than initially anticipated, potentially keeping him out of the game for a long time.
Speculations suggest that while it would be remarkable if he manages to return for the fourth Test in Ranchi, the third Test in Rajkot is also likely to be out of his reach. The recent release from BCCI confirms his absence for the second Test.
India, who are currently trailing the five-match series 0-1, may also miss key players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami.
Shami, who is suffering from ankle problem, is currently in London and is taking treatment and injections. His participation in any of the ongoing five-match Test series seems unlikely, raising questions about his preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held between March and May.
The silence surrounding Virat Kohli’s absence is creating uncertainty over his availability in the remaining matches. While the BCCI had initially said that his absence was limited to the first two Tests, that adds a layer of mystery to Kohli’s current absence from the country.
In contrast, KL Rahul’s situation seems less worrying. Complaints of pain in the right quadriceps related to thigh surgery in 2022 prompted the precautionary measure. Rahul is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and indications suggest that given the substantial gap between the second and third Test, he may recover in time for the third Test.
