RCB has better balance in WPL 2024: Smriti Mandhana

Bengaluru. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Smriti Mandhana believes that the balance of her team has improved ahead of the 2024 season.

Despite having several star players, RCB failed to enter the knockouts in the inaugural season of the WPL last year and finished fourth in the points table.

The franchise will begin their WPL 2024 season when they play their first match against UP Warriors on February 24 at their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“I would definitely like our performance to be better than the first season. From RCB’s point of view, a lot of players were released and we brought in new players. So, definitely a balance,” RCB captain Smriti Mandhana said on Geo Cinema. There has been improvement and we are looking forward to performing as per our potential.”

“Playing in the domestic season helped me practice well and we saw a lot of girls we haven’t played against before. After watching these girls I was able to recommend some names to my franchise.”

“Last year, when we joined the team two days before the tournament, we didn’t know 90 per cent of the players. We didn’t know what they did and what they didn’t do. This year, knowing their strengths and weaknesses It was important so that we could play better. WPL is a small tournament and it is difficult to change things during the tournament.”

When asked whether RCB is ready as a title contender for WPL 2024.

Smriti said, “We don’t want to think too far ahead. We definitely want to do better than last year and are motivated to do so. The people at our franchise have been very good and have supported us a lot. So more than anything we want to win the trophy for them.
