Bangalore. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) director Shyam Sharma said that Rishabh Pant is responding adequately to the ongoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The India wicketkeeper-batsman can be expected to be declared fit after this year’s ODI World Cup gets over.
After meeting Pant at the NCA in Bengaluru, Sharma told IANS, “Rishabh Pant is making good progress. He is responding adequately (for rehabilitation). He can recover (in terms of fitness) after the ODI World Cup (in October-November) and will come out (of NCA) only after he is declared fully fit.
On December 30, 2022, at around 5:30 am, 25-year-old Pant miraculously survived when his Mercedes car while on his way to his hometown Roorkee hit a divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway and caught fire. This horrific car accident took place between Mangalore and Narasan in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand state.
Pant was initially taken to Saksham Hospital Multispeciality and Trauma Center before being admitted to Max Hospital, Dehradun. On 4 January, Pant was airlifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West, Mumbai for right knee surgery and further treatment for multiple injuries.
Since April, Pant has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA, where he has started walking without crutches and climbing stairs without any support. Sharma said it was heartening to see Pant making progress in his recovery at the NCA by climbing stairs and walking on clay as well as grass.
Sharma said, “His ongoing rehabilitation at the NCA is going very well. He is also doing a lot of exercise. I was at NCA for about half an hour. He is being given all the exercises related to walking, climbing stairs and he is also walking on mud or grass.
Physios S Rajinikanth and Tulsi Ram at the NCA are believed to be working on the rehabilitation of Yuvraj Pant. Apart from Sharma, DDCA director Harish Singla was also there to meet the left-handed batsman at the NCA.
Sharma concluded, “He is being looked after by experts at the NCA. During the time I was at NCA, he was making good progress. He looked fit and fine mentally. Like, I can tell the tiger is getting ready to roar back.
Pant, who made his international debut in February 2017, was last seen in action when India secured a 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh in December 2022. In the Second Test, which ended on 25 December, he scored a match-winning 93 in India’s first innings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. (IANS)
