Orlando (USA). In a historic moment, Dronacharya Bhupendra Dhawan’s student Ritesh Dogra won 2 gold and 1 silver medal at the Pro Olympia Powerlifting Championship in Orlando (USA).
There have been only two Indian gold medal winners so far in Pro Olympia powerlifting (2017 Mukesh Singh and now Ritesh Dogra). Ritesh went one step ahead by winning 3 medals in one year. Both Mukesh and Ritesh are disciples of Dronacharya Bhupendra Dhawan. These medals are dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Khelo India and Fit India movement.
Ritesh stood first in the 90 kg category by lifting a total weight of 767.5 kg. He had a tough competition with Chile’s Roberto Coria (body weight 90 kg). Both of them lifted the same weight but comparatively Ritesh’s body weight was less (86 kg body weight), hence he won the gold medal.
In Raw Bench Press, Colombia’s Santiago Ruiz won the gold medal with a total lift of 180 kg and the silver medal was won by India’s Ritesh Dogra with a total lift of 175 kg.
In the 90 kg class open raw deadlift, Ritesh Dogra gave his best performance till date (with 302.5 kg) and stood first and created a record. The silver medal was won by Colombia’s Santiago Ruiz (who lifted 290 kg).
