New Delhi. Former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa heaped praise on MS Dhoni after the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper scored a brilliant run out from behind the wicket on the last ball of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) innings.

Dhoni ran out Anuj Rawat in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 43-year-old cricketer dismissed the doubts and amazed everyone with his enduring fitness and agility despite undergoing knee surgery after the IPL 2023 season.

Robin Uthappa echoed the sentiments of many, expressing his surprise at Dhoni’s dedication, comparing his work ethic to that of tennis legend Roger Federer. Uthappa’s insight into Dhoni’s recovery regime, which also included tennis sessions, offered a glimpse of the meticulous preparation that paved the way for Dhoni’s triumphant return to the IPL arena.

“He definitely does. His knee looks brand new at the moment,” Robin Uthappa told GeoCinema on Friday.

“The fact that he is jogging and walking well shows that he has worked behind the scenes. Just like Roger Federer. Nobody knows what kind of work ethic he has , but he comes into the tournament and looks really good. MS is doing that.”

Uthappa also highlighted how Dhoni used a few tennis sessions to return to fitness while he was on the road to recovery after knee surgery last year.

Uthappa said, “He looks good, looks healthy and strong, seems to be batting well. As I said earlier, CSK will play MS Dhoni in a wheelchair. But, I think he has done well. Have started. I am happy with it. He is playing tennis and paddle tennis to keep himself fit. He is looking good at the moment.

CSK defeated RCB by six wickets in the first match after restricting the score to 173.
