Lucknow (Uttam Hindu News) – Rohan Bopanna defeated Morocco’s Elliot Benchetrit and Younes Lalami Laroussi 6-2, 6-1 in a one-sided match with his partner Yuki Bhambri in the Davis Cup World Group-2 doubles match here on Sunday. Gave a wonderful full stop to his Davis Cup career.

This was the last match of 43-year-old Rohan Bopanna in his Davis Cup career. In the match played on the Vijayant Khand hard court with his partner Yuki Bhambri, he uprooted the Moroccan players before they could even settle on their feet. The world number seven player, who came to Lucknow after playing the final of the doubles category in the US Open, made full use of his experience on the court and forced his rivals to kneel in the match that lasted for one hour and 11 minutes.

After the victory, the fans present on the court stood up and clapped and bid him farewell. Emotional Bopanna said goodbye to Davis Cup by taking off the Indian team jersey on the court. India’s oldest player played a total of 33 matches during his Davis Cup career, including 13 doubles matches, out of which he won 23.

In this match, Indian players completely dominated Morocco who looked weak. Moroccan players were seen struggling to save their serve. India won the first set in just 34 minutes. In the second set also, Bopanna presented a brilliant example of service but in the third game, the Moroccan team got a break point on the service of Bhambri. However, the Indian team was successful in saving it.

Morocco’s Younes had made the score 40-0 on his serve in the fourth game but after that he lost control over his serve, as a result India won the match and gave India a 2-1 lead.
