Rohit criticizes broadcasters over ODI century figures

Indore | India skipper Rohit Sharma criticized the broadcasters over ODI century figures, saying there is a need to show the right stuff too.

When Rohit scored a century in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand yesterday, the broadcasters flashed the figures that it was the Indian captain’s first century since 19 January 2020. Rohit scored 101 runs in 85 balls against New Zealand in Indore.

The figures are correct but Rohit said in the post-match press conference that it does not reflect the true picture as very few ODIs were played during this period due to various reasons.

Rohit has expressed disappointment over the rhetoric about his recent form in ODI cricket. When asked about the three-year gap in ODI centuries, he elaborated that he has played fewer ODIs in the last three years because of the importance given to the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.

Rohit said, “I played only 12 ODIs in three years. Three years sounds like a long time but I played only 12 or 13 ODIs in these years, if I am not mistaken. I know it was shown in the broadcast. But sometimes we need to show the right thing as well. Last year we did not play ODI cricket because there was more focus on T20 cricket. Sometimes we should take care of that, the broadcaster should also show the right thing.

“Did I not understand what you mean by return? You are talking about three years, eight months out of which we were at home because of COVID-19. Where were the matches happening? And last year we played only T20 cricket. T20 There is hardly anyone batting better in cricket than Suryakumar Yadav, he has scored two T20 hundreds, I don’t think anyone else has scored a hundred.
