Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma pulled off a remarkable feat during India’s final league stage match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands on Sunday, as the India skipper set a new record for the most number of sixes hit in ODIs in a calendar year. ,

Rohit achieved this milestone by hitting a massive six of 92 meters over long-on off Colin Ackerman, which was his 59th six of the year and left behind the record made by former South African captain AB de Villiers in 2015.

Additionally, he also holds the distinction of being the captain with the most number of sixes in a World Cup edition. Rohit achieved the feat with his 23rd six in the 2023 World Cup, surpassing former England captain Eoin Morgan’s record of 22 sixes in the 2019 edition.

The Indian captain also equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring most 500+ runs in World Cup editions. Rohit (2019 and 2023) and Tendulkar (1996 and 2003) both scored more than 500 runs in the two editions.

Furthermore, Rohit became the first player to score more than 500 runs in two consecutive World Cup editions.

The 36-year-old captain has scored 503 runs in nine matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
