New Delhi: Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri believes Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma’s workload has doubled over the years. He said that not being in form with the bat has also affected Rohit’s captaincy. Rohit is the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), leading Mumbai to five title wins (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). Rohit Sharma’s performance last season was not great. His team finished last in the standings with only four wins in 14 games. Same is the case this time too. Rohit Sharma is not able to perform with the bat at the level that is expected of him. The team is currently at number six in the points table with 10 points.

Shastri admitted that his lack of form with the bat has affected Rohit’s captaincy as well. He said- If you are scoring runs then the job becomes very easy as a captain. Body language changes on the field. When you are not scoring runs, the energy is different on the field. Whoever you are, but disappointment cannot be avoided.

IPL 2023 season is not going well for MI captain Rohit as he has scored 184 runs in ten matches at an average of 18.39. His strike rate is 126.89. It also includes two ducks. Shastri further said- This is where as a captain it is more important that your performance comes to the fore. However, the season is not over for Rohit yet. If he comes in form from here too, then the way will be easier for the team and him.
