Ahmedabad. Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday broke West Indies legend Chris Gayle’s record of hitting most sixes against a single opponent in the ODI format during the World Cup final against Australia.
Rohit has hit 86 sixes against Australia in the 50-over format and left Chris Gayle’s record of 85 sixes against England.
After Rohit and Gayle, there is former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi who hit 63 sixes against Sri Lanka. The fourth name in this list is that of former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya, who has hit 53 sixes against Pakistan in ODIs.
This is Gayle’s second record which has been broken by Rohit during this World Cup. Just a few days ago, the Indian captain had broken Gayle’s record of most sixes in ODIs.
On Sunday, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Rohit started well and broke Gayle’s record by hitting a six on Maxwell as soon as he came on the track.
Rohit scored 47 runs in 31 balls, which included four fours and three sixes. Rohit has scored 597 runs in 11 matches in the World Cup 2023 and has led India throughout the tournament.
