Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has introduced the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill in the state assembly in Dehradun. At the same time, during the presentation of the bill, the opposition MLAs created a ruckus in the House. In view of the uproar by the opposition, the proceedings of the House have been adjourned till 2 pm. The opposition alleges that a copy of the draft of the UCC bill was not given. Regarding the bill, Congress says that the government wants to avoid questions. For this reason the draft copy was not given. Congress said that the government is hiding something on UCC. If this bill is implemented, Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to implement UCC after independence. If the UCC law is implemented in the state, then the same laws regarding marriage, divorce, alimony, land, property and inheritance will apply to all citizens, irrespective of their religion.

• After the implementation of UCC, the marriage age of girls of all religions will be 18 years and that of boys will be 21 years.

• Men and women will get equal right to divorce.

• Polygamy will be banned.

• Registration will become mandatory for those living in live-in.

• If you do not get live-in registration done, you will have to face a punishment of 6 months and will also be deprived of facilities.

• Registration of marriage will become mandatory.
