Mumbai: An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons for using the name, photo and voice of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for the promotion of pharmaceutical products without his permission. An official gave this information on Friday. The official said that an aide of Tendulkar lodged a complaint in this regard with the West Zone Cyber Police Station on Thursday. The complainant said that he came across an online advertisement of a pharmaceutical company, which claimed that Tendulkar was endorsing its product. He was also informed about a website ‘sachinhealth.in’ which was promoting these products by falsely using Tendulkar’s picture. was campaigning. The complaint states that since Tendulkar had never given permission to the company to use his name and photographs and was tarnishing his image, he directed his associate to take legal action.
The official said an FIR was registered against unknown persons under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery) and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code, besides the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is on in the matter.
