When Kohli came to bat, the wickets of Rohit Sharma (80) and Ajinkya Rahane (10) fell quickly. The 34-year-old then took charge and remained unbeaten on 87, sharing a 106-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja at the end of the first day’s play. When the second day’s play started, Kohli scored the 29th century of his Test career. He was run out on 121 runs.
It was Kohli’s second Test hundred of the year after scoring a brilliant 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad in March. Since September 2022, Kohli has scored 6 centuries in all formats, while no century came in between 3 years. The batsman ended his century drought during the T20I against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.
