India’s top wrestler Sakshi Malik Vinesh Phogat And Bajrang Punia Strongly criticized the government’s decision to exempt from the trial of Asian Games 2023. He has raised his voice against it on Twitter on Thursday. He also revealed that he too had received the same offer from the government but did not accept it. The 30-year-old Olympic medalist was a prominent protester during the wrestlers’ protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She was an active voice against the federation and was seen in various protests along with Vinesh and Bajrang.

The WFI’s ad-hoc panel committee further divided the wrestling fraternity when it exempted Vinesh and Bajrang Punia from the Hangzhou Asian Games trials. Both the star wrestlers will compete in their respective categories without any trial and this has angered the rest of the wrestling fraternity including Sakshi. Sakshi shared strong words on her Twitter handle and criticized the government for ‘defaming wrestlers’. Sakshi wrote in her tweet, ‘The government has done the work of breaking the unity of the wrestlers by sending their names directly to the Asian Games. I have never gone to play without trial nor do I support it.
Government wants to make wrestlers fight
Sakshi Malik said, ‘I am troubled by this intention of the government. We had talked about extending the trial date, but the government has put this defamation in our pocket. Sakshi also said that she and other protesting wrestlers had demanded an extension of the trial date so that they could train. Sakshi revealed that the government offered her a direct entry to the Asian Games but she refused as she wanted a fair trial. He said that we had sought time from the ad hoc committee so that our trial could be conducted after August 10 as we were unable to train. He sent us a letter giving time. That is the reason why we came out for training.

Sakshi Malik protesting against the government’s move
He said, ‘I got a call from the government that they are directly sending the names of both of them (Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat) for the Asian Games and asked me to send a mail so that my name can also be sent. I refused as I did not want direct admission. I have never gone to any tournament without trial and will never do so in future. He further said, ‘I am against this step of sending names directly because I do not want any player’s rights to be taken away. This is to instigate a fight between the wrestlers due to which the names of two people have been sent directly. I am completely against it.
Wrestlers gherao IOA headquarters
Several junior wrestlers, their parents and coaches first protested in Haryana’s Hisar and also gheraoed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) headquarters in Delhi on Thursday to protest against the exemption given to some wrestlers in the wrestling trials. Please tell that Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat have been given exemption in the selection trial for Asian Games, which is being opposed. On Thursday, around 150 people, including relatives of wrestlers, gathered near the IOA headquarters demanding a meeting with IOA president PT Usha and ad-hoc panel chief Bhupendra Singh Bajwa. Young player Amit Panghal’s coach Vikas Bhardwaj told PTI that we all want to meet the top IOA officials against this decision of the government. We will stick to the demand from the government to withdraw the exemption given to Vinesh and Bajrang. Wrestlers are very angry because of this decision of the government and have termed it as an unjust decision. However, Panghal and Under-23 Asian champion Sujit Kalkal did not reach the headquarters for the demonstration. Panghal and Sujit have appealed to the Delhi High Court to quash the government’s decision.
