Samarth Championship: India beats Sri Lanka by 8 wickets to take 4-0 lead

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Magunta Sai and Debraj Behera scored half-centuries as the Indian men’s blind cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the fourth T20 of the Samarth Championship for Blind Cricket at the Karnail Singh Stadium here. Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 142/7 runs in 20 overs, but India easily achieved the target with 40 balls remaining. Magunta scored 50 runs in 42 balls and also took one wicket. Whereas Debraj scored 54 runs in 29 balls. Magunta, was named player of the match for his all-round performance.

India had already won the series by defeating Sri Lanka in the third T20 on Wednesday. With the win on Thursday, India now take an unassailable 4-0 lead in the Samarth Championship, the international bilateral blind cricket series. Sri Lanka, who came to bat first after winning the toss, suffered an initial setback and lost their opening batsman in the third over itself. The visiting team lost the second wicket in the fourth over.

Chandana Deshapriya and wicketkeeper batsman Priyantha Kumara took over the team’s innings by making a partnership of 51 runs for the third wicket. However, Sri Lanka once again came on the backfoot due to the early fall of two wickets. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals. In the end the team could score only 142 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.

Chasing 143, India had the worst start, but Manguta and Debraj scored half-centuries to give the hosts a comfortable win. The two made a partnership of 111 runs to help India chase the target. India has won 4 T20 matches so far in the current series against Sri Lanka. Now on Friday, India and Sri Lanka will clash in the fifth and last T20.
