Haryana’s Sanjana improved her national youth record and won the gold medal in the 76 kg category in the weightlifting competition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) here on Monday. Sayali Wani of Maharashtra made a brilliant comeback and won the gold medal in girls’ singles table tennis. Sanjana lifted 87 and 90 kg, twice improving her previous snatch record of 86 kg. She was successful in lifting 113 kg and 116 kg in the first and third attempts of clean and jerk respectively. Maharashtra’s Grishma Thorat won the silver medal by lifting a total weight of 167 kg. Weightlifter Parv Choudhary from Uttar Pradesh also lifted 160 kg, bettering the clean and jerk national youth record in the boys’ 96 kg category. He lifted a total weight of 280 kg.

In this event, Arunesh Babu (258 kg) of Andhra Pradesh and Aditya (249 kg) of Haryana won silver and bronze medals respectively. In table tennis, Sayali made a brilliant comeback after losing the first three games and won the gold by defeating Nandini Saha of West Bengal 8-11, 8-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-0, 11-6. Won the medal. Pritha Vartikar of Maharashtra won the bronze medal. The pair of Sayali and Pritha also won gold in the girls’ doubles event. Rujuta Rajdanya, also from Maharashtra, won gold in 50 meter backstroke with a timing of 31.04 seconds. She has also earlier won a gold medal in 50 meter freestyle. Haryana strengthened its lead over third-placed Tamil Nadu in the wrestling table by capturing three of the day’s six gold medals. Two days are left for the event and Maharashtra is leading the table by a huge margin with 44 gold, 39 silver and 44 bronze.
