Karachi. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi are being discussed as possible candidates to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. A source suggested on Tuesday.

Immediately after the ODI World Cup, Pakistan will tour Australia for a three-match Test series.

Considering the team’s performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup, there is speculation that Babar Azam is feeling the pressure of captaincy and is not able to express himself much as a batsman.

A source said, “Only if Pakistan can pull off a miracle and win all their remaining matches to qualify for the semi-finals of this World Cup, will Babar have any chance of continuing as captain and then Also he can be sent for captaincy only in red ball format.”

The source said, “It’s all over for Babar because he has been given unbridled power and authority as captain and more importantly, he has always had players of his choice in his team. No effort has ever been made to do so and hence now Babar has been held completely responsible for the defeat in the Asia Cup and the World Cup.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf met Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and former players Muhammad Yousuf in Lahore to discuss Pakistan men’s cricket plans ahead of the Australia tour and the T20 World Cup 2024. And met Aaqib Javed. ,

Sarfaraz, who is not part of the World Cup squad, is the ICC Champions Trophy 2017-winning captain and is more likely to take up the captaincy role in both white and red ball cricket due to his previous experience.

“Sarfaraz may get the nod to captain the Test and ODI teams again, while Shaheen may get a chance to become the T20 captain,” the source said.
