He said, ‘If there was a normal match, there would not have been so much talk. Defeating India in the final of an ICC tournament was a memorable moment, which I will never forget.
Sarfaraz said, ‘No score was difficult for Team India. They had players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. And compared to him, there were players in our team whose milk teeth were yet to break. We had a team of children, but today they are taking Pakistan cricket to greater heights.
He said, ‘Look at our team in the final of Champions Trophy, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf. All these were young players. We had no comparison with Team India. In the name of experience, we only had players like Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. The rest were kids and new to the team.
Pakistan’s debut in the tournament was not special
In the podcast, Sarfaraz said, ‘When I started playing as a captain, there was a different kind of pressure on me. Playing as a player is very different. Because our start in the tournament was also nothing special.
He said, ‘We had reached the final. Before the match, I told only one thing to all the players that we will play the way we have played in the tournament. We have made a great comeback in the tournament. In such a situation, if we win, it will be like creating history for us.
Fakar Zaman scored a century
In the Champions Trophy final, India won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first. Fakhar Zaman played an excellent century innings for the Pakistani team who came out to bat in the match. Zaman scored 114 off 106, which helped Pakistan set a mammoth target of 339 for India.
However, in response to this, the Indian team batting was a complete flop. Team India’s top order was badly shaken and the entire team was all out after scoring 153 in 30.3 overs.
