Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said these things while addressing a program organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow on Saturday.

Asian and Para Asian Games medal winners and participating state players were honored with Naga Awards. 189 outstanding players received prize money worth Rs 62 crore. The number of players who received cash prizes of Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 3 crore was high. Seven players also received appointment letters. Of these, four are being appointed to the post of Deputy SP. Others are getting appointment as District Youth Welfare Officer and Passenger-Goods Tax Officer.

Meerut’s athlete Parul Choudhary tops award recipients

The state government gives a reward of Rs 3 crore to the gold medalist, Rs 1.5 crore to the silver medalist and Rs 75 lakh to the bronze medalist in the Asian Games. Among the award winners, Meerut athlete Parul Choudhary received the highest amount of Rs 4.50 crore. Parul had won gold medal in 5000 meter race and silver medal in 3000 meter steeple chase in the Asian Games.

Hockey player Lalit Kumar Upadhyay of Varanasi, who won gold medal in the Asian Games, javelin thrower Annu Rani of Meerut, cricketer Rinku Singh of Aligarh and Deepti Sharma of Agra, Kabaddi player Arjun Deshwal and shooter Akhil Kumar of Baghpat will get Rs 3 crore each. Awards were given. Badminton player and IAS officer Suhas LY and javelin thrower Praveen Kumar, who won the gold medal in the Para Asian Games, were also given Rs 3 crore each.
