Shaheen was injured in the cheek
23-year-old Shaheen Afridi returned to Test cricket after opening the Pakistani bowling in the first Test. He is playing Test for Pakistan after a year. Last year, in a match against Sri Lanka at the Galle ground itself, he had injured his knee on the boundary line while trying to stop the ball. That test also started from 16th July itself. The pacer made an international comeback for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October last year, but twisted his already injured right knee in the final, ruling him out of the home series against England (Tests) and New Zealand (Tests and ODIs). Missed playing the series.
Big achievement already mentioned
Shaheen Afridi finally returned for Lahore Qalandars earlier this year. Before the match, Shaheen told PCB Digital in Hambantota, ‘I was very excited to make a Test comeback in the country where I was injured. Injuries are part of an athlete’s life, but it’s good to be back. I enjoy red-ball cricket a lot and I am one wicket away from a century in Tests which would be a big achievement for me.
Shaheen was playing for Nottinghamshire in England before being named in the Test squad for the two Tests against Sri Lanka. Shaheen said, ‘It takes time to get used to red ball cricket after playing with white ball. But the Karachi camp has proved beneficial for me. Test cricket demands patience and you have to work in partnership with fellow bowlers.
