Sharad Pawar lost by one vote when Chanakya of politics was trapped in Dalmiya’s googly

A disappointed Pawar argued at the time that if one of his supporters, representing the Maharashtra Cricket Association, had been allowed to vote, he would have won the election.

Pawar later said that his defeat in the BCCI elections was ensured through unfair means. However, he did not go to court against it. The NCP leader said that one of his genuine votes was deliberately denied. A deliberate controversy was created over Maharashtra’s representation and D Agashe, a member of the board for 20 years, was not allowed to vote. Had it not been so, he would have won. It was the whole game plan. It was a cricket match in which the bowler and the umpire were the same person.

Sharad Pawar became BCCI president only after one year
Interestingly, the very next year in 2005, Sharad Pawar won and became the BCCI chief and completed his term till 2008. After this, he was also the chairman of the ICC from 2010 to 2012. He was the second Indian after Jagmohan Dalmiya to become the ICC chief. Dalmiya, who hails from the Bengal Board, held the post from 1997 to 2000.
