Star badminton player Saina Nehwal on Saturday criticized veteran state Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa for his misogynistic remarks against BJP candidate from Davanagere seat Gayatri Siddheshwar. Shivashankarappa, the 92-year-old sitting MLA from Davangere South, had said that Gayatri, wife of former Union minister and sitting MP Siddheshwar GM, ‘only knows how to cook in the kitchen’.
Taking exception to his comment, Nehwal posted on her ex, “A top leader of Karnataka, Shamanur Shivashankarappa ji has said that women should be confined to the kitchen. This sexual comment made on Davanagere candidate Gayatri Siddheshwara cannot be expected at least from a party which says that I am a girl, I can fight. ,
34-year-old Nehwal, who won a bronze medal in the London Olympics in 2012, said that when women in the country aspire to leave their mark in every field, such hateful comments against women are disturbing. He wrote, “When I won medals for India on the sports field, what did the Congress Party want from me, what should I have done? Why is it being said like this, when all girls and women dream of achieving great achievements in any field. ,
Nehwal wrote, “On one hand we are saluting women power. Under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi sir, Women’s Reservation Bill has been passed and on the other hand, insult to women power and anti-women people. This is very disturbing. Shivashankarappa recently said, “She (Gayatri) doesn’t even know how to speak properly.” He is fit for cooking at home.
