Sheikh Shahjahan accused of converting crores of black money into white under the guise of shrimp business

Kolkata, Amit Sharma: Sheikh Shahjahan, arrested in the case of attack on Enforcement Directorate (Ed) officials in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, is currently in ED custody. Shahjahan and his associates are accused of financial irregularities in Chingadi fish farming and fish import and export business. Taking cognizance of the said matter, ED is investigating by registering an IIR (complaint). In the investigation, ED is finding new facts one after the other. Now, the Central Investigation Agency has come to know that an amount of about Rs 137 crore was transferred to the bank account of Shahjahan’s company through two companies involved in import and export of fish.

ED fears that black money worth crores has been converted into white by making fake bills of Chingadi fish trade. Investigators believe that this number will increase as the investigation progresses. A report related to the facts found in the investigation has also been submitted by the ED to the Special PMLA Court located at Bankshall Court. According to sources, during the investigation, ED has found that through a company named M/s Magnum Exports, about Rs 104 crore was transferred to the bank account of M/s Sheikh Sabina Fishery Company, a company controlled by Shahjahan.

About Rs 33 crore transferred to the bank account of Shahjahan’s company

These rupees were transferred from the year 2012 to the year 2022 and 2022-23 financial years. Here, in the financial year 2023-24, approximately Rs 33 crore was transferred from a company named M/s Arup Kumar Som to the bank account of Shahjahan’s company. Last February, ED had raided a total of six places including Howrah, Kolkata, North 24 Parganas as part of the investigation in the said case. This campaign was conducted at the locations of traders considered close to Shahjahan, who were associated with the fish trade with Shahjahan.

Shahjahan Sheikh’s name also in ration distribution scam

ED came to know of Shahjahan’s name during the investigation of ration distribution scam. On January 5, ED officials who had gone for an operation at his residence in Sandeshkhali were attacked. Shahjahan was arrested by the state police in connection with the attack. Later, on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) started investigating the case. After being in CBI custody, the court last Friday directed Shahjahan to be kept in judicial custody for 12 days.
