Shiva Thapa and Amit Panghal started with a win

New Delhi. Six-time Asian Championships medalist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and 2019 World Championships silver medalist Amit Panghal (51kg) started their campaign on a winning note on the third day at the 7th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships.

Representing Assam, Shiva started in dominant style against Abhinash Jamwal. But, as the match progressed, the Himachal Pradesh boxer made a remarkable comeback and impressed the referee, making Shiva work hard for every point.

The match was tightly contested throughout but the highly experienced Shiva maintained his composure at crucial moments of the game and defeated his opponent by a split decision of 4-3. Now on Tuesday, he will face Santosh HK of Karnataka in the round-16 match.

Amit, who was playing for SSCB, was up against Shivaji of Maharashtra. Looking determined as ever. Amit finished the match with a 5-0 win. Now in the round of 16, he will face Jaishandeep Singh of Punjab on Tuesday.

Tokyo Olympian Ashish Kumar (80 kg) of Himachal Pradesh defeated his rival Arshdeep Singh of Punjab. Ashish was on top of his game and dominated the proceedings to clinch the win. He will face Nitish Kumar of Chandigarh in the round of 16 on Tuesday.

Asian Championships 2022 bronze medalist Govind Sawhney (48kg), who is playing for RSPB (Railway Sports Promotion Board), proved too strong for Tripura’s Sayan Lodh. Govind started moving forward with an aggressive stance and did not give any chance to his opponent.

Within no time, Govind ended the game with the referee stopping the match in the first round itself. Now in the round of 16, he will face Vishal of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
