Mumbai . Young left-handed top-order batsman Shubha Satish, who impressed everyone by scoring a maiden half-century on debut in the one-off women’s Test against England, is now out.
Shubha, who top-scored with 69 in India’s first innings of 428 runs, did not bat in India’s second innings due to a broken finger and was removed from the Test for treatment and rehabilitation.
Although it was known on the very second day that he was not likely to bat due to injury, the BCCI confirmed the news on Saturday morning itself. However, it did not provide any details about how Shubha got injured and how long she would be out of action.
This makes the 24-year-old medium-pace all-rounder doubtful for India’s next Test against Australia and the subsequent ODI and T20 series as she is unlikely to recover from the broken finger within a week. The Australia series is scheduled to begin with the one-off Test on December 21 at the Wankhede Stadium.
This is a big blow for the young female batsman as she made it to the Indian team after playing domestic cricket for 6-7 years. She had performed well in the first innings against England and was looking forward to playing Australia, the strongest team in women’s cricket.
