Anish Bhanwala lost in the shootout to Dai Yoshioka of Japan who won the silver medal. The 21 year old shooter from Karnal had shot 28 targets in the final. Local favorite shooter Lee Gunhyeok won the gold medal. Anish Bhanwala had secured a quota for the Paris Olympics by reaching the final as China, Japan and Korea had already secured two Olympic quotas each in this event. Apart from Bhanwala, other shooters who reached the final were from China, Japan and Korea.
Bhanwala reached the finals by finishing third in the qualification stage with 588 points. Another Indian Bhavesh Shekhawat was in the top eight in the qualification with 584 points but could not reach the final as he was competing only for ranking points (RPO) and was not eligible to reach the final.
