Hyderabad. Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised the Ben Stokes-led side after defeating India by 28 runs in the opening match of the Test series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, saying that England have shown that they are a great team and they have to face them. Don’t get entangled.
With the help of vice-captain Ollie Pope’s brilliant 196 runs, England defeated India by 28 runs. India were set a challenging target of 231 runs to win, but, the Indian batting lineup was destroyed by Tom Hartley.
The young spinner took 7 important wickets in the last innings and pushed India towards defeat. Team India was all out for just 202 runs in its second innings, and England won the match by 28 runs.
The win gives England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, which also boosts the team’s confidence that their ultra-attacking baseball theory is capable of working well in Indian conditions.
Hussain wrote in his column for Sky Sports, “The team’s exciting journey continues under the leadership of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. This shows that they have great confidence. The way they are playing. They have a lot of confidence and do things their own way.
They don’t worry about outside noise. What I like about this team is their determination. If you doubt them, they become more dangerous.”
“I think it’s a good thing because if you’re constantly listening to all the noise, you can lose sight of your goal. The coaches and captains know what they want. They’ll stick to it and when they’re behind , they will still support the cricketers to change it. They have shown that they are a team not to be messed with.”
