Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj nominated for ICC Player of the Month Award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday released the list of international stars shortlisted for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards after an action-packed month of cricket in September. Two players from India are among the three names shortlisted for ICC Men’s Player of the Month. Shubhman Gill And Mohammad Siraj Names of are included. One more player is in this list. He is David Malan, one of the great short-format batsmen of England. The Indian pair played an important role in Team India winning the Asia Cup title for the eighth time last month.
Shubman Gill can win this award for the second time
Mohammed Siraj returned to the top spot in the ICC men’s ODI rankings for bowlers at the end of September. He was the real hero of India’s victory in the final with a remarkable bowling performance. Joining him in the shortlist is Shubman Gill, who continued his run-scoring momentum in the Asia Cup and later in the ODI series against Australia. Gill will be hoping to win his second Player of the Month award. England’s David Malan has been nominated for this award for the first time after his brilliant performance in the series against New Zealand.

Indian batsman Shubhman Gill has enjoyed a very successful 2023 year so far. Gill, who scored a flood of runs during September, could be in line to win his second Player of the Month award. The 24-year-old player has scored 480 runs at an average of 80 in his eight ODI matches during this month. Which includes a stylish century against Bangladesh in Colombo and 74 and 104 runs in back-to-back games against Australia.
David Malan (England)
England’s batsmen have reached the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup with excellent form in ODI cricket. He recently won the Player of the Series award in the win over New Zealand on home soil. During the series his score increased with each match. After a half-century in the second match, he came close to the three figures by scoring 96 runs at the Oval. In September, he scored 277 ODI runs at an average of 92.33.
Mohammed Siraj (India)
The fast bowler returned to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Bowler Rankings in September thanks to his brilliant performance to defeat Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Colombo. Siraj took a total of 11 wickets in six ODI matches. But he will be remembered for that memorable moment when he bowled out Sri Lanka for 50 in the Asia Cup final. Siraj took six wickets for 21 runs which included four wickets in one over.
No Indian in Women’s Player of the Month
The shortlist for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award includes South Africa’s pair of Nadine de Klerk and Laura Wolvaardt, who recorded an impressive T20I win in Pakistan. Apart from this, Sri Lanka’s influential captain is Chamari Atapattu, who led her team to victory in the historic T20I series in England. Chamari earned his second Player of the Month nomination following his batting and bowling contributions in Sri Lanka’s first series win on English soil.

Sri Lanka’s iconic captain was at her peak in the T20I series against England in September. After losing the rain-affected first match by a narrow margin, Atapattu produced consistent player-of-the-match performances to secure their first win over the home team in any format. His trademark explosive batting and economical bowling helped restrict England to low scores in the second and third matches. After a brilliant inning of 55 runs in 31 balls in the second match, he played a match-winning inning of 44 runs in 28 balls in the decisive match, and also took three valuable wickets for England.
Nadine de Klerk (South Africa)
The South African all-rounder earned his first nomination for the Player of the Month awards after scoring valuable runs and wickets in ODI wins over Pakistan and New Zealand last month. De Klerk scored throughout September, being dismissed only once and scoring 171 runs, including consecutive half-centuries. The player of the series against Pakistan also impressed with the ball. He took 13 wickets in his five ODI matches at an excellent average of 12.76.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)
Despite losing the T20I series against Pakistan 3–0, Wolvaardt was named Player of the Series after scoring 157 runs in his three matches. After the ODI series against Pakistan, South Africa once again found his form and this time scored an excellent half-century before scoring an unbeaten 124 runs against New Zealand.
