Shubman Gill, Siraj named for Mens Player of the Month for January 2023

Dubai. India’s Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj played tremendous series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Along with him, New Zealand opener Devon Conway has been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Awards for January 2023. The shortlist was announced after a blockbuster month of cricket, which included a host of bilateral cricket events across the globe.

The ICC Player of the Month awards are given to outstanding cricketers on the international stage from the previous calendar month and the lineup for January 2023 is a mix of established international seniors and fresh talent who are expected to claim the awards.

Included in the Men’s Player of the Month shortlist, the talented batsman recently scored two centuries and a double century in ODIs against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Gill received his first nomination for the award after a stellar month, particularly in ODI cricket. Scored 567 ODI runs during this period at an astonishing average of 113.40. His powerful strokeplay helped him score three hundreds on three occasions.

Arguably his best performance during this period was an unbeaten 208 in the first match of the series against New Zealand at Hyderabad, hitting 28 boundaries in just 149 balls.

Mohammed Siraj has continued to atop the Cao Men’s Douq Player Rankings and reached the pinnacle for bowlers in January, thanks to back-to-back four-wicket hauls against the same opposition.

Siraj’s rise to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Bowler Rankings reflects his performances.

Siraj has been in consistent form over the past 12 months, earning him a place in the recently announced ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2022 and is now at the top of the ODI rankings.

Siraj took 14 wickets at an impressive average of 10.57 in five ODIs against Sri Lanka and New Zealand during January, including a string of four consecutive wickets against the two touring teams.

Completing the men’s shortlist for January is New Zealand opener Devon Conway, who started the month with a Test hundred in Pakistan, and finished it with another hundred in India, this time in ODIs.(IANS)
