New Delhi . Former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep is eager to return to tennis with renewed vigor after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced her four-year ban to nine months.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Independent Tribunal found Halep guilty of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) and banned her for four years last September. But now this ban has been reduced.
Now, the former world number one is free to return to the tour as soon as possible, as she has already served a 9-month suspension.
Following the CAS decision, Simona wrote on Instagram: “Today is an important moment, as the tribunal has delivered its decision.
“Through this challenging journey, my unwavering faith in the integrity of the truth and the principles of justice has been my weapon. Despite facing serious allegations and opposition, I have not given up.”
Halep, a two-time Grand Slam champion, was temporarily suspended from competition on October 7, 2022. When it was announced that he had tested positive for roxastat, a substance banned at the 2022 US Open. He later denied consuming it and blamed a contaminated nutritional supplement.
Halep has not competed since losing in the first round of the 2022 US Open.
