Sydney, Australia). India’s two-time Olympic medalist P.V. Sindhu and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth stormed into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Badminton Championships after winning their second round matches in straight games.

Sindhu, who won a silver medal at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 and a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020, defeated compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap 21-14, 21-10 in a 29-minute match.

Srikanth registered an equally easy win over Chinese Taipei’s Su Li Yang 21-10, 21-17 in his second round match at the BWF World Tour Super 500 event on Court 3 of the Quecentre.

It was Sindhu’s first encounter with Aakarshi and the more experienced player held the lead throughout the match and pressed for a comfortable win. In the tournament, fifth seed Sindhu will next face fourth seed Beiwen Zhang of Malaysia, who after a hard-fought 19-21, 21-10, 21-12 win in the second game against Huang Yu-hsun, reached the final.
