Nelson (New Zealand). Against New Zealand, Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar scored his career-best ODI score of 169 runs off 151 balls, helping Bangladesh score 291 runs in 49.5 overs. During this, he broke the 14 year old record of great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
This century of the 30-year-old player is the highest score made by a Bangladeshi male player in an ODI match away from home.
This is also the best score made by a player from the subcontinent in ODI matches in New Zealand, which has left behind Sachin Tendulkar’s record of unbeaten 163 runs against New Zealand.
The total of 291 is also Bangladesh’s highest ODI score in New Zealand.
Soumya’s thrilling innings which included 22 fours and two sixes ended in the last over of the innings when he was out while trying to hit a four off William.
The left-handed batsman’s innings is now the second best by a Bangladeshi in ODIs after Liton Das’s 176-run innings against Zimbabwe.
Talking about the match, Bangladesh, who came to bat first after losing the toss, were looking in trouble and lost their first three wickets within 10 overs.
But Soumya took over the innings and took the team to a strong total. With the help of his innings, the visiting team, batting first, scored 291 runs after losing all the wickets. However, in reply, New Zealand easily achieved this target by losing only 3 wickets. Also captured the series 2-0.
